Robert T. Matsui Prize in Writing on Public Service
University of California Washington Center
The Robert T. Matsui Foundation launched its inaugural program, in partnership
with the University of California Washington Center (UCDC), in the spring of 2007. The competition, open to all students enrolled at UCDC during
the competition term from any of the University of California campuses, invites students to reflect on the value of their internship and study experiences in contemplating careers in public service.
The spring 2008 competition prompt is now available; winning essays will be posted on conclusion of the competition.
The winnter 2008 winners were first-prize winner Stephanie Coleman, second-prize winner Oliver Rodriguez, and third-prize winner Ritu Singh.
The fall 2007 winners were first-prize winner Monica Chen, second-prize winner Maytak Chin, and third-prize winner Vanessa Vaughan.
The spring 2007 winners were first-prize winner Hilda Chan and second-prize winner Joseph Shamalta.
Robert T. Matsui-U.C. Congressional Fellowship
University of California Washington Center
Robert T. Matsui-U.C. Congressional Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to students in the University of California Washington Program engaged in term-time congressional internships. The program aims to support this public service internship by providing financial support and special programming for each term of Fellows. The long-term aims of the program include special recruitment efforts at the U.C. campuses and placement assistance in congressional offices. Special support for the program for the 2007-08 academic year is provided by the Verizon Foundation.
University of California students seeking additional information on the program should contact Roya Soleimani at the U.C. Washington Center. The Spring 2008 competition was announced by the University of California on February 14, 2008
The spring 2008 winners are: Emily Barr (UC San Diego, Rep. George Radanovich); Robert Combs (UC San Diego, Sen. Dianne Feinstein); Scott Judson (UC Davis, Rep. Ellen Tauscher); Tracy Pimentel (UC Irvine, Rep. Darrell Issa); and Bertha Romero (UC Riverside, Rep. Grace Napolitano).
The winter 2008 winners are: David Coy (UC Santa Cruz, Rep. Barbara Lee); Gabriel Elsner (UC Berkeley, House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming); Garret Nasworth (UC Davis, House Committee on Foreign Affairs); Jose Ordonez (UC Davis, Rep. Mike Thompson); John Soroushian (UC San Diego, House Committee on Science and Technology); Jennifer Yoo (UC Riverside, Rep. Ed Royce).
The fall 2007 winner was Joanna Perez (UCLA, Senator Dianne Feinstein).

McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific
The Robert T. Matsui Fellowship at McGeorge School of Law supports students pursuing summer opportunities in public service in Washington, DC,
with preference to federal government employers. The first class of fellows will be awarded for summer 2008.
